Indian Cricket - The road ahead

So many topics to blog on but finally settled for Indian cricket, waiting for new direction due to the recent exit from the world cup. I was disgruntled after the last world cup final match, Australia beat India by 125 runs, and that was the second time India embarrassed the fans with its cheap performance against Australia. Forget about winning, it turned out to be a one sided game. Of course, part of my dissatisfaction was caused by the fact that I paid $100 just to watch one match but India played so poorly that I didn't enjoy worth $10. I knew back then that there is a lot of room for Indian cricket to improve and India's cricket future is a train wreck waiting to happen if something is not done. Now, after 4 years, India displayed the worst cricket ever in the history of World cup. What did BCCI do in these 4 years, if at all any? If BCCI is compared to a business entity, fans would become the end consumers and BCCI would become the manufacturer. Since the last world cup, BCCI revenues kept raising but yet the quality of the product(team) deteriorated. Would this ever happen in a business? I don't think this scenario will change in India anytime soon, unless Indian government sacks BCCI for not showing results, but will BCCI produce a quality team that far exceeds the talent of world's dominant team Australia? Going by the past history, the answer is no. I am not criticizing BCCI for not doing its job, I am just saying BCCI is not investing its power and money in finding innovative ways to develop a competitive team. Why do we still play all 5-day test matches in Ranji trophy and other domestic tournaments? When the world is moving in the direction of Twenty20 format, we still linger to the 5 day format. We don't give a set score and have the batsmen chase the target. I hope BCCI would realize this fact at least now and would lay an innovative path for the future of Indian cricket.
