The saga of Satyam's acquisition attempt - Introspection

The recent failed attempt of Satyam's Maytas acquisition has created multitude of topics for discussion in the business world across continents. One of the buzzwords that is getting widespread attention is 'Corporate Governance', particularly in the Indian corporate landscape as this is probably not new in the western countries, and its importance in safeguarding shareholder value.

Numerous news articles popped up on the Internet, media flashed its focus and played a major role in halting the acquisition thought by the board but I have hardly found any newspaper explaining the pros and cons of the acquisition for the benefit of readers with limited knowledge of corporate governance, let alone a rundown of the cause of investors outrage. I think providing insight into basic questions such as what led Satyam to diversify?, why is diversification so bad for investors? and How would the acquisition benefit Satyam's founders and their family members? would definitely go a long way in helping a lot of people understand what really happened and the relevance of corporate governance.
